ANGEL course and group mail from prior to May 14, 2004 to be removed
On Wednesday, April 30, 2008, Information Technology Services will remove all ANGEL course and group mail messages dated May 14, 2004 or prior from the ANGEL system. This action is being taken in preparation for the upgrade from ANGEL version 7.1 to 7.2 following the spring semester. Mail messages sent prior to May 14, 2004 are in an older format that will not be compatible with version 7.2.
Users who wish to save a copy of an ANGEL mail message slated for removal can forward it to their external e-mail account as follows:
1. On the course or group Communicate tab, select the Read Course Mail link.
2. If the message is in a folder other than the Inbox, use the select a folder pull-down menu to open that folder.
3. Select the link for the message to open it.
4. Click the Forward button.
5. Select your own name/user ID in the Recipients list, then click the To button.
6. Below the message, check the Send a copy to each recipient’s Internet e-mail check box.
7. Click the Send button.
Note: If you have not specified a forwarding e-mail address for ANGEL mail messages, the message will be forwarded to your Penn State Access Account e-mail address. To specify another e-mail address, click the Preferences button in the left navigation menu. Select the System Settings link. Enter the e-mail address in the Forwarding Address field, then click the Save button. Each forwarded message will then be sent to the address you specified in addition to your Penn State Access Account address.
For any questions, contact ANGEL support at angelsupport@psu.edu.

Adobe Acrobat/Reader Vulnerability
Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader users should install Adobe's new 8.1.2 update immediately to protect themselves from potential software vulnerabilities, according to ITS Security Operations and Services (SOS).
The University has experienced a large number of incidents related to a type of PDF-based hostile code that has been circulating through the use of vulnerable (pre 8.1.2.) versions of Acrobat and Reader software. When users open the infected PDF file it downloads a variant of the "Zonebac" trojan horse, resulting in control of the individual's computer system. The code also attempts to render all antivirus applications inoperable.
Adobe has recently released Acrobat/Reader version 8.1.2 to combat the Zonebac trojan vulnerabilities in all previous Acrobat and Reader versions (8, 7.0.9, 7 and earlier). To learn how to obtain the 8.1.2 update, go to http://its.psu.edu/news/s tory-979.

[ALERTS] Bogus/phishing e-mail messages sent to Penn State addresses
E-mail messages claiming to be from "PSU Team" and titled FW: VERIFY YOUR PSU EMAIL ACCOUNT NOW " began appearing in e-mail boxes over the weekend. These e-mails did not come from Penn State, and appear to be part of a phishing scam. Anyone who receives these e-mails should delete them, and should not respond to them.
ITS Security Operations and Services is investigating the origin of these messages.
We are currently taking all necessary actions to resolve this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
For more information, please contact ITS Help Desk (helpdesk@psu.edu).
